Insolvencies and recovery
The insolvency process is a universal enforcement process that aims to liquidate the assets of an insolvent debtor and to distribute the proceeds obtained by creditors, or to satisfy them in the manner provided for in an insolvency plan.
This process, which must be submitted to the court, can be initiated by the debtor (legal person, natural person or other subjects specifically determined) or by the creditor.
A debtor who is unable to fulfill his overdue obligations is considered to be in a situation of insolvency.
The entire insolvency proceedings are of an urgent nature.

The conditions and procedures for entry, residence, departure, and removal of foreign citizens from the Portuguese territory, as well as long-term resident status, are regulated by Law No. 23/2007 of 4 July (having as latest changes those introduced by Law No. 28/2019 of 29/03).
